Chile Changes Rules for Traditional Certification of Low-Power Radio Equipment with Mandatory QR Code Labeling

Starting February 22, 2026, the landscape for manufacturers and importers of radio frequency devices in Chile will undergo a profound transformation. The Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (SUBTEL) has established a new system that replaces the mandatory certification process with a self-verification and QR code labeling system for most low-power equipment.
What does the change entail?
Under the new Resolutions 737 and 2219 EXENTA, SUBTEL has decided to differentiate the requirements according to the equipment’s use:
- Medical Equipment: Devices such as implants (MICS) or medical data acquisition systems will continue to require an official Certificate prior to sale.
- Consumer Equipment: Other devices (IoT, remote controls, Wi-Fi accessories, etc.) will no longer require certification from SUBTEL. Instead, the Manufacturer or Importer must ensure that the equipment technically complies with the standard and must display a QR code.
The QR Code: The New Face of Compliance
All equipment sold in Chile must include a QR code visible on its packaging, the device itself, or its manual. This code must link to a website in Spanish containing:
A Warning for Current Stock
A critical aspect of the regulation is its retroactive effect. Equipment that already has certification obtained before February 2026 must also include the QR code to continue being displayed or sold to the public after the effective date. For these devices, the code will redirect directly to the Certification Letter previously issued by SUBTEL.
At C-TEITEL, we are working diligently to offer our clients a web platform and QR code generation tool that meets SUBTEL’s requirements. Regarding local representation, we maintain a partnership with VINTEL CHILE SpA to jointly offer a reliable solution.
